My car
Sun

So, I have been worrying about the age and mileage on  my car lately.  It was making weird noises when I turned and it sometimes is reluctant to start in the mornings.  It was time for an oil change so I took it in yesterday to my local Jiffy Lube and learned a few things.  Since my car has over 150,000 miles on it, I should use the high mileage oil which I knew needed to happen but was not able to afford before now.  I also learned that because of the age of my car I need to be more careful about checking the other fluid levels like power steering fluid.  A couple of my brake lights were out and the air filter needed to be changed.  I learned that the car was making funny noises when I turned because the power steering fluid was low.  Good to know and something I can take care of myself if needed.  I can also change the lights and the air filter if needed but it was easier to just let them do it.  The reason my car had trouble starting sometimes is that one of the posts on the battery had a lot of corrosion so they cleaned that off too (also something I can do myself if needed).  My car is fine!  I just need to continue to take care of it and it will last me a while longer.  Yay!

On a completely different topic...
My weight loss efforts are not going so well.  I am having trouble staying motivated about eating right and making sure that I get enough exercise in a week.  My eating habits have gotten better but I still have a few to work on.  Sometimes it is just easier to eat junk than take the time make something.  Breakfast and lunch are good because I pack my own and only eat what I take to work with me.  It is dinner that gets me in trouble because by the time I get home from work or on my way home from work I am hungry and just want something quick to eat.  I think I need to eat something between lunch and the end of the work day so I am not starving by the time I get home.  I know what I need to do.  Sometimes it is just hard to stick with it!

Live Earth concerts
Sun

So, I have been watching the Live Earth concerts on and off all day. I have been impressed with the variety of performers. To this point it has been performers singing their songs and then Melissa Etheridge took the stage. Maybe I am biased because I think she is an amazing person but all I can say is wow. She rocked the house and was not afraid to speak her mind.

It is all well and good for these concerts and celebrities to get up, talk, and send a message. Now the question is do they back it up and are we going to back it up? Are we going to do something about global warming ant the killing of our planet or are we going to sit around and say let someone else do it?

I am not going to sit around. I am going to do whatever I can to reduce my impact on the environment, hold myself accountable, and hold my government accountable. What are you going to do?

I signed the pledge, will you?

I got this from a friend of mine...enjoy!!!

AN OPEN LETTER TO MR. JAMES THATCHER, BRAND MANAGER,
PROCTER & GAMBLE.

Dear Mr. Thatcher,

I have been a loyal user of your Always maxi pads for over 20 years, and I appreciate many of their features. Why, without the LeakGuard Core* or Dri-Weave* absorbency, I'd probably never go horseback riding or salsa dancing, and I'd certainly steer clear of running up and down the beach in tight, white shorts. But my favorite feature has to be your revolutionary Flexi-Wings.

Kudos on being the only company smart enough to realize how crucial it is that maxi pads be aerodynamic. I can't tell you how safe and secure I feel each month knowing there's a little F-16 in my pants.

Have you ever had a menstrual period, Mr. Thatcher? Ever suffered from "the curse"? I'm guessing you haven't. Well, my "time of the month" is starting right now. As I type, I can already feel hormonal forces violently surging through my body. Just a few minutes from now, my body will adjust and I'll be transformed into what my husband likes to call "an inbred hillbilly with knife skills." Isn't the human body amazing?

As brand manager in the feminine-hygiene division, you've no doubt seen quite a bit of research on what exactly happens during your customers' monthly visits from Aunt Flo. Therefore, you must know about the bloating, puffiness, and cramping we endure, and about our intense mood swings, crying jags, and out-of-control behavior. You surely realize it's a tough time for most women. In fact, only last week, my friend Jennifer fought the violent urge to shove her boyfriend's testicles into a George Foreman Grill just because he told her he thought Grey's Anatomy was written by Drunken chimps.

Crazy! The point is, sir, you of all people must realize that America is just crawling with homicidal maniacs in capri pants. Which brings me to the reason for my letter.

Last month, while in the throes of cramping so painful I wanted to reach inside my body and yank out my uterus, I opened an Always maxi pad, and there, printed on the adhesive backing, were these words: "Have a Happy Period."

Are you f---ing kidding me?

What I mean is, does any part of your tiny middle-manager brain really think happiness-actual smiling, laughing happiness-is possible during a menstrual period? Did anything mentioned above sound the least bit pleasurable? Well, did it, James? FYI, unless you're some kind of sick S&M freak girl, there will never be anything "happy" about a day in which you have to jack yourself up on Motrin and Kahla and lock yourself in your house just so you don't march down to the local Walgreens armed with a hunting rifle and a sketchy plan to end your life in a blaze of glory.

For the love of God, pull your head out, man. If you just have to slap a moronic message on a maxi pad, wouldn't it make more sense to say something that's actually pertinent, like "Put Down the Hammer" or "Vehicular Manslaughter Is Wrong"? Or are you just picking on us?

Sir, please inform your accounting department that, effective immediately, there will be an $8 drop in monthly profits, for I have chosen to take my maxi-pad business elsewhere. And though I will certainly miss your Flexi-Wings, I will not for one minute miss your brand of condescending bullshit. And that's a promise I will keep. Always.

had kittens and moved them to the oven, that wouldn't make them biscuits."

I love a good basketball game but dang it Duke!  These over-time games are nail biters!  This game against Virginia has been a good one.  The Blue Devils get better with each game.  The problem became that they let their guards down and didn't put the game away when they had the chance.  Of course Virginia deserves credit for not quitting and playing hard the whole game.

Well, Duke lost the game.

Now I am going to be a little harsh here.  The crowd rushed the floor after the game.  HELLO are you you people STUPID!!!!  People have died and been seriously injured by crowds rushing the court.  Is it really worth it to injure a player or fan by doing such a stupid thing?  I don't care who does it, what school it is, who just got beat, or even if it is a championship game.  It is stupid, stupid, stupid to rush the court after the game.  People get a clue.

Snow
Brave thing
[info]betsyw
We got quite a bit of snow last weekend.  I think some places the in Texas Panhandle had a foot of snow. It snowed all day last Saturday (Jan.20) and most of the night.  It was pretty.  On Sunday, it was sunny and people were out playing in the snow.  I went out to tromp around in it and make a snow angel in my yard.  It was fun.  I love snow and it was especially nice because I didn't have to go anywhere so trying to drive in it wasn't an issue.  It was great.  Contrary to popular belief, there are parts of Texas that get snow quite a bit.  The panhandle gets snow every year (mostly) so this really wasn't a new thing.  I always like it though.  It would have been even nicer though if it had snowed during the week and I could have had a day or two off work.  Maybe we will get some more before winter is over.
